Construction began in 1386 and was completed in 1965. It is the largest church in Italy, and considered the 5th largest Christian church in the world. The rooftop terraces are open to tour, and they afford an up-close look at many of the 3,400 statues and 135 gargoyles, not to mention a great view of the city.
