This charming small village grew in importance in the late 1200s when Avignon became the home of the Pope. The hilltop Fort, Fort Saint-André, housed a Benedictine Monastery with extensive gardens. The village was home to many of the Bishops who moved here along with Pope Clement V in 1305.
