Piazza Armerina is a town in eastern central Sicily which dates to the 8th century BC. The Villa Romana del Casale is an extremely large villa dating from the 3rd century AD. There is some speculation that this villa was owned by Roman Emperor Maximianus Herculius. It was an elaborate villa with lavish mosaic and fresco decoration, much of which remains. Guest Bedroom Guest Bedroom Guest Triclinium (Dining Room) Guest Room possibly for servants of the domina possibly a Gymnasium for the Daughters of the Family possibly a Music Room Some mosaics are missing from this collection. We were unable to view many of the private apartment rooms/mosaics, including the Vestibule of Hercules and Polyphemus, and the Cubicle of the Fruit Mosaic. We will need to make a return trip!
