Hever Castle Rosebud

Hever Castle Rosebud by Brenda Pokorny

Created using Italian smalti, hand cut using a hammer and hardie, the same technique used by mosaicists for centuries.

This little piece is a close-up study from a photo I took while visiting the incredible rose garden at Hever Castle, Kent, England.  The fragrance of the roses guided us through the extensive gardens to the roses.  Hever Castle was once home to Queen Anne Boleyn, 2nd wife of King Henry VIII.

You can view my photos of the gardens and hedge maze on the castle grounds here.  This maze was the inspiration for my mosaic piece, Feathered Folly.
